Well I had an issue, not with my worms since they are raised in a controlled environment, but rather my bird feeder. Since before I moved, I setup my bird feeder at the new location. Each day, even as I was working on the interior, I had unwanted visitors, squirrels.
I watched them for several days climb up the metal post as if it were nothing, shake the bird feeder and jump back to the ground to enjoy their smorgasbord. I happened to mention this to a good friend of mine who is an avid hunter and distributor for one of the largest hunting scent producers. He informed me that the company he works with had a new patented pest repellent which was an all natural and environmentally safe.
So as he peaked my interest he began telling me how the company had a problem in the deer stables with mice where they extracted natural scents for hunters. Hence they came up with two pest repellent formulas, one for small varmints and the other for larger ones including deer and coyotes.
He started explaining how other companies produce liquid and powder forms which wash away in rain or even an early morning dew. The company he represents has a patented stick formula which does not wash away and can withstand extreme weather conditions.
He offered to send me one as a free sample to try so I did not refuse.
Well after over three weeks now, I still no longer have any issues with squirrels at the bird feeder. I see plenty of squirrels everyday however they do not approach within 100 to 150 feet or so of the bird feeder.
Then I began to think of all the people not only with organic gardens needing to keep rabbits, deer and other critters away but those who have problems with worm bins outside in their yards. See some varmints such as mice, opossums, armadillos, skunks… will try to get into an exterior worm bin or worm bed and can end up destroying them.
Then the idea of over spray with liquids and powder formulas came to mind. This product, called Danger Zone is just like a deodorant stick that offers a time release. You just swipe in on surrounding tree trunks, fences… or even use a few wood shim stakes which come with the product.
Anyway, I was impressed with the results and you can find out more as to which varmints and critters each of the two products helps to repel and other information by visiting the online store.
